LIMR Accelerating New Nanotherapy Platform with Help of National Cancer Institute

Lankenau DoctorLIMR Professor, Dr. Janet Sawicki and her collaborators at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), have been selected by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for a research collaboration to perform preclinical studies on their novel nanotherapy for the treatment of solid tumors. The research will be conducted by the NCI's Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory (NCL), part of a major program, the Alliance for Nanotechnology in Cancer, to advance the medical applications of nanotechnology. The initial NCL efforts will focus on the characterization of this new product for its adsorption, distribution, and toxicity properties in both in vitro and in vivo studies. The intent of these studies is to produce data so that the therapy can advance to clinical trials. In early stage laboratory studies, this technology has been applied to treatment of prostate, ovarian, pancreatic, and cervical cancer models.
BioStrategy Partners Delivers Dynamic, Hands-on Assistance to Life Sciences Entrepreneurs
By: Lorraine Keller, Ph.D. , Portfolio Manager

I have been a member of BioStrategy Partners since its founding in 2004.  As an entrepreneur and co-founder of three start-up biotechnology companies, I have been able to bring a first-person perspective on the challenges of establishing and growing new businesses based on high-risk, high value technologies.

I like to think of BioStrategy Partners as a 'virtual incubator with a difference' because we are one of the few organizations that work with companies at their earliest stages, often when they are only a concept in the mind of the entrepreneur with little or no business analysis in place.

We designed the Corporate Development Program as a dynamic, hands-on, customized service model to educate entrepreneurs. We assist our clients with defining and achieving their highest priority business goals.  The foundation and starting point of our service process is the diligence review- and this is where BioSP is different- unlike investor diligence, where the objective is to evaluate whether a company is a good investment risk, our goal is to determine how we can help each company to set and meet important milestones, typically directed to preparation for early angel funding, seed investment, or seeking a corporate partnership.

As Portfolio Manager, I participate in all of the diligence sessions and work closely with companies invited into the Corporate Development Program.  My job includes a lot of mentoring, and I have always found it very rewarding to be part of an organization that helps early-stage entrepreneurs learn how to successfully grow their life sciences businesses.
