![]() Ronald Schmid ![]() Ron Schmid is a results driven senior executive with more than 30 years experience in healthcare communications, issues management and public policy. His leadership skills are proven in positioning companies and products, branding initiatives, counseling senior management on solving high visibility issues, and dealing with the media as spokesperson. Furthermore, Ron's creative skills are evidenced by developing and executing high-profile events at major industry meetings (BIO Annual Convention). After ten years with Johnson & Johnson as Vice President of Communications for two operating companies, McNeil Consumer Healthcare and Centocor Inc., Ron started R.E. Schmid and Associates last March. Since that time his clients include: Albert Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia; Lundbeck USA ( a Danish based $1.5B company seeking to position it"s products and company in the US); Ashton Tweed ( an executive search company positioning BioPort, a commercialization accelerator for foreign based life science companies); and NuPathe, a private company preparing to commercialize it's first product. Prior to initiating a consultancy, Ron helped Centocor grow the blockbuster biologic, Remicade, from $400m to over $2.5B, while handling several label changes in the process. He also initiated a major public policy communications campaign regarding follow - on biologics and participated in high profile issues management – plant explosion. At McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Ron provided leadership to an extensive issues management and strategic media campaign for Tylenol; launched a nutritional product worldwide, achieving dominant share of voice; and created proactive campaigns for Adult and Children's Tylenol, Motrin, and several other products. Ron's corporate experience also includes Vice President for Corporate Communications and the Washington Office for Novartis and ten years as Director of Communications, Government Affairs and Policy for Lederle Laboratories, A Division of Wyeth. Earlier in Ron's career, he spent five years as a lobbyist for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America in Washington D.C. He also worked in the New York State Legislature and managed a nine state demonstration project on health policy development for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Ron has a B.A. from Fordham University in New York and an M.P.A. from New York University. He resides in Yardley, Pennsylvania. |
